How To Write A Killer Brand Tagline
A tagline is a short, catchy (often a little bit clever) supporting phrase that sits with your main brand marque or logo to give your brand clarity and grab your audience’s attention.
The more well known a brand becomes, the less clear its tagline really needs to be. Think of the big brands like Nike ‘Just Do It’ and McDonalds ‘I’m Loving It’ -they are simply a connection and feeling with their audience, even if they do not have any detail on what the company actually does. For most small businesses though our taglines have to do a big more legwork for us.
So, what should you consider when creating a killer tag line:
Keep it clear – Be succinct with the words you use and make sure they really add to your main brand marque. If it doesn’t help explain what you’re about then don’t include it.
Keep it relatively short – People are time poor these days (also a little bit lazy) so keep your tagline short so that it is quick to read. It also means it will look attractive on your marketing materials. Don’t try and explain all that you do and remember that your brand identity is a kit of parts that works together.
Keep it simple – Your audience should be able to easily repeat your tagline back to you – this is a great test when you’re playing around with ideas. Following the first two points above will help with this.
Make it clever – People remember clever taglines…try to create a tagline that will get stuck in your audiences head. If it rolls off the tongue then you’re heading in the right direction. Again testing ideas out on people is a great thing to do.
